How To Re-Pot A Plant

How To Re-Pot A Plant

Here's a simple guide to re-potting your favourite plant, without damaging the plant, or your carpets!

1. Start by taking everything you need either outside, or to the kitchen sink - this way, soil is not going to go anywhere it isn't welcome!

Spread newspaper on the sink or ground to capture any escaping soil so you can re-use it in the new pot.

Don't forget to add grit or gravel to the bottom of the new pot to allow the excess water to drain away from the plant and stop the roots rotting.

2. Remove plant from current pot - turn your  plant sideways, hold it gently by the stems or leaves, and tap the bottom of its current pot until the plant slides out.

3.Loosen the roots. Loosen the plant's roots gently with your hands.

4. Remove old potting mix - if the plant roots are woven too tightly around the old soil, that's also fine - don't damage the roots by tearing them apart!

5. Add new potting mix - make sure to add a good quality mix specifically for that type of plant - make a well in the middle so you can add the plant.

6. Add the plant and fill any gaps with more soil / potting mix and add a layer of new mix on the top of the plant.

7. Water well and enjoy.
